About GINI

History and Establishment
The Global Innopolis Network Initiative (GINI) was formally established during the Leaders Assambly at its Inaugural Ceremony held in Daejeon, Republic of Korea, on September 3, 2024. Building on its legacy as a hub for international dialogue and innovation, the City of Daejeon initiated the GINI following the successful hosting of the UCLG World Congress in 2022 and the Global Innopolis Forum in 2023. Comprising local government representatives and stakeholders from industry, academia, and government, the GIA includes six founding member cities: Daejeon (South Korea), Dortmund (Germany), Hsinchu (Taiwan), Malaga (Spain), Montgomery County (MD, USA), and Seattle (USA).

Vision and Objectives
The GINI is committed to advancing science, technology, and urban innovation to address global challenges and promote sustainable economic development through inter-city cooperation. Emphasizing shared governance, the Initiative aims to enhance the well-being of local communities and foster common prosperity by leveraging collective expertise and resources.

Strategic Focus
The GINI envisions a global collaboration platform that integrates science and technology with industrial development and economic cooperation. Its goals are multifaceted: to enhance innovation capabilities globally through science and technology-based cooperation, to collaboratively address urban challenges using innovative solutions, and to promote shared economic growth through the development of strategic industries and new technologies. The Initiative strives to improve and actively utilize innovation capacities in science and technology, fostering both the creation of new industries and the enhancement of existing ones.

Through these concerted efforts, the Global Innopolis Network Initiative endeavors to position itself as a pivotal player in shaping the future of innovation-driven urban development, championing resilience, prosperity, and equitable progress worldwide.
